Thanks to Madelyn for turning me onto this week's poem, which is actually a song. Apparently her son learned it in school. Comes complete with hand movements:
I'm a Nut
I'm a little acorn round (make circle with thumb and forefinger)
Lying on the cold cold ground (wave arm across front with palm facing down)
Somebody came and stepped on me (stomp foot)
That is why I'm cracked you see (zig zap motion with forefinger)
I'm a nut (clap clap), in a rut (clap clap), I'm crazy (circle finger around ear)
That's the first verse. You can read the rest here.
Thanks to Becky's Book Reviews for hosting this week's Poetry Friday!

If you look at the other verses you will understand why the music teacher only taught the 5-year-olds the first one!!!
I think whoever wrote this song was a bit of a nut.
I remember singing this one as a child. We were much older than five. I think we were ten or twelve. The point was to bug our parents. Fairly successful.
I've taught this to many young students as well, and without fail they all love it. I've never heard those other verses though.
Sheesh, am I the only one who wasn't taught this song as a kid? Perhaps my teachers and scout leaders wanted to spare me the teasing that would certainly have ensued!
Hey Linda,
I know that song kind of sounds like you should have monopoly of it what with the acorn and all... but I'm sorry to notify you. You're going to have to share. Pretty much every writer sitting at home alone staring down their compupter monitor is a nut in a rut... is crazy!
True, rilla, so true. Hey, at least I have an excuse!
Pepsi Cola came to town, Coca Cola shot him down! Dr. Pepper fixed him up, now I'm drinking 7up.
