Where's Linda?

Time for a little game, sports fans!

I've been out of town on business for a few days. Can you tell from these shots where I am?

Here's my husband, Joe, sitting beside me on the trolley. If you're able to guess based on this shot, you must be either (a) someone who already knew where I was going this week or (b) a stalker.

An artist's street display. If you can guess by this shot, you must be either (a) a native of this city or (b) the artist.

Street performers. If you can guess by this shot, you must be either (a) a frequent tourist to this city or (b) knowledgeable enough about music to be able to tell what genre this is based on the instruments.

A famous square. If you can guess by this shot, you must either (a) have visited this city at least once or (b) really know your presidential statuary.

A famous cafe known for a certain delicious pastry. If you can guess by this shot, you must either (a) know a little something about U.S. cities or (b) watch too much Food Network.

A typical street scene. If you can tell by this shot, you must be either (a) someone who has seen this city on TV or in photos or (b) a decent guesser. If you cannot yet guess where I am, well, you must either (a) live outside the U.S. or (b) live under a rock.

Me on a famous (or perhaps infamous) street. This one's the giveaway shot.

Ah, yes. Laissez les bon temps roulez!

If I weren’t so busy getting ready for a conference, Linda, I'd drive over to New Orleans and treat you to lunch . . . Cajun style.

I love CafĂ© Du Monde – which is kind of funny considering I don’t even drink coffee or eat sweets. HA! HA! I just like to have a drink-drink and gawk at the passer byes. What fun!!

Hi, Kimberly Lynn! How far are you from N.O.? You probably figured it out pretty quickly, eh?

I have to say, I sure am jealous of the weather y'all are enjoying down this way. It's back to freezing temps for me tomorrow.

And, I've only had one beignet since I've been here, but not cuz I don't like them, that's for sure!

Good luck with your conference!

I didn't eat the beignets, but trust me; I ate plenty of everything else. HA!

I'm about three hours or less from New Orleans. I haven't been there since before the hurricane, so I’m glad to see the place is hopping again. Sorry about the freezing temps you have to return to – be glad your trip wasn’t in the summer though. I went to New Orleans in June and it was sweltering hot. I looked and felt like a puffer fish.

Wow--looks like such a good time!
Congrats on working on your new novel; what a great feeling.

Kimberly, yes, I was amazed at how this city has pulled itself up from so much destruction. We went to an IMAX show about Katrina, and I had forgotten just how incredibly horrible things were. We didn't venture too far from downtown, but I can say that we did not see a single shred of evidence that anything had happened in that area. The crowds are lighter than usual, but ... well, Mardi Gras is coming up in a few weeks, so I'm sure that'll change at least for a little while!

Danette, thanks for the kind wishes. I miss the Santa cap ,,, maybe you should start looking for an Easter bonnet next!

Hi Linda,
And thanks for visiting my blog. It must have been so nice to see and feel the warm sun again.

I really liked your posting, "It's a Start." I thought I'd add a few of my own favorite first liners...

"It was almost December, and Jonas was beginning to be frightened." first line of The Giver, by Louis Lowry

"My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973." first two lines of Lovely Bones byAlice Sebold.

Great Blog,
Sheri

Hi, Sheri! I haven't read either of those, though Lovely Bones has been on my list forever. Will have to check them out. Thanks for the recommendations!

HI, CL! Thanks for stopping by! I remember reading the first page of your ms on one of the blog contests, the one about the boy making out his will ... LOVED it!
